Lighting Tip #33 - Track Lighting

Track lighting is a system of light fixtures referred to as ‘heads’ connected to a monorail track. It contains electrical wires that power each head individually. They are perfect for an area that requires a more focused beam of light.

  1. In general, track heads on a linear monorail need to be left around 12”-24” apart.
  2. For more specific uses, place track heads closer together, but keep them at least 5” apart.
  3. Keep the fixtures at a 30-degree angle to optimize distance and to minimize glares and shadows.
  4. If you are illuminating an object that may produce direct glare (such as glass frames), place the track no more than three feet from the wall.

Tip: Adjust the head angles to get a more specific beam in different directions throughout the area.
